This hat pattern uses a simple technique to achieve an interesting texture. If you are comfortable with pattern repeats then you are going to have fun with this hat.
The pattern written as is, should fit 20”- 22”.
This hat should take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete depending on your skill level.

4 rows = 2”

Red Heart Soft
H hook
Tapestry Needle
Stitches used:
Front Post Double Crochet – fpdc
Back Post Double Crochet – bpdc
Back Loop Only – blo
Round 1 With H hook, ch 3, then 9 dc in in 3rd ch from hook. Sl st in 1st dc. (9 dc)
Round 2 Ch 2, 1 dc in the same stitch as the ch 2 (ch 2 counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc in each stitch around. Sl st in ch 2. (18 dc)
Round 3 Ch 1, 2 hdc blo in next stitch, *hdc blo in next stitch, 2 hdc blo in next stitch,* repeat from * around. Sl st in ch 1. (27 hdc)
Round 4 Ch 2, dc blo in next stitch, 2 dc blo in next stitch, *dc blo in next 2 stitches, 2 dc blo in next stitch* repeat from * around. Sl st in ch 2. (36 dc)
Round 5 Ch 2, dc in next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, *dc in next 3 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around. Sl st in ch 2. (45 dc).
Round 6 Ch 1, hdc blo in next 3 stitches, 2 hdc blo in next stitch, *hdc blo in next 4 stitches, 2 hdc blo in next stitch* repeat from * around. Sl st in ch 1. (54 hdc)
Round 7 Ch 2, dc blo in next 4 stitches, 2 dc blo in next stitch, *dc blo in next 5 stitches, 2 dc blo in next stitch * repeat from * around. Sl st in ch 2 (63 dc)
Round 8 Ch 2, dc in each stitch around. Sl st in ch 2 (63 dc)
Round 9 Ch 2,hdc blo in each stitch around. Sl st in ch 1 (63 hdc)
Round 10 Ch 2, dc blo in each stitch around. Sl st in ch 2 (63 dc)
Round 11 Repeat round 8
Round 12 Repeat round 9
Round 13 Repeat round 10
Round 14 – 19 Pattern repeat of Rounds 8-10
Round 20 Ch 2, fpdc in same stitch, fpdc in next stitch, *fpdc in next 2 stitches, bpdc in next stitch* repeat from * around. Sl st in fpdc. (63 dc)
Round 21-24 Repeat Round 20.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
