Doctor Who Dalek Inspired Fingerless Gloves free patttern

Doctor who is probably one of the most crocheted/knitted fan item, though as a fan I may be completely biased. But just google Doctor Who crochet or knit (especially knit) there are hundreds of pages of fun fan hand-crafted items that some ingenious folks have created.

What I have set out to do was not only create a functional piece of awesomeness, but cool fan art. For these gloves, I went with a DK yarn which is thinner so if you use a Red Heart, Vanna’s Choice size 4 yarn, then the gloves will yield a larger/bulkier glove.

Supplies needed

• E Hook or hook size needed for a bigger size
• D Hook
• Tapestry needle
• DK yarn weight yarn (size3). I used Patons Astra in silver grey and black

Stitches used:

• Double Crochet –DC
• Half Double Crochet – HDC
• Front Post Half Double Crochet - FPHDC
• Front Post Double Crochet – FPDC

Camel Stitch – Do a normal HDC and instead of inserting the hook through the normal loops, you want to turn the stitch towards you, where you will see one more loop. That is where you will insert your hook.

Tapestry crochet - You work with two colors at once, simply working over the color you're not using, like working over a yarn tail to hide it. When it's time to switch colors, you just pull up the previously worked-over color and start working over the other color.

Round 1 Foundation 40 dc, and sl st to form ring and ch 2.

Round 2 *Fpdc in next dc, bpdc in next dc,* repeat from * until the end, sl st, ch 2 (40)

Round 3 Hdc in each stitch around, sl st ch 2 (40)

Now we start the Dalek pattern

Round 4 1 fpdc grey around ch 2, 1 fpdc around next stitch, 1 dc black in next 8 stitches (see camel stitch instructions), *1 fpdc in next 2 stitches, 1 dc black in next 8 stitches (see camel stitch instructions), repeat from * around. Sl st, ch 2. (40)

Round 5 With grey only, *1 fpHDC around the next 2 fpdc, then 1 HDC in next 8 stitches* repeat around, sl st ch 2 (40)

Round 6 *1 fpdc in first stitch, 1 fpdc in next stitch, then 8 dc in next set of stitches (see camel stitch directions)* repeat from * around, sl st (40)

Round 7 With grey only, *1 fpHDC around the next 2 fpdc, then 1 HDC in next 8 stitches* repeat around, sl st ch 2 (40)

Round 8 *1 fpdc in first stitch, 1 fpdc in next stitch, then 8 dc in next set of stitches (see camel stitch directions)* repeat from * around, sl st (40)

Round 9 With grey only, *1 fpHDC around the next 2 fpdc, then 1 HDC in next 8 stitches* repeat around, sl st ch 2 (40)

Switch to smaller hook and start using markers, as this part of the glove you no longer be slip stitching at the beginning of the round.

Round 14 2 dc in next dc twice, dc in each dc until the end (42)

Round 15 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in each dc around (44)

Round 16 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in each dc around (46)

Round 17 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in each dc around (48)

Round 24 *1 fpdc in next dc, 1 bpdc in next dc*, repeat from * around sl st. Fasten off

Round 25 With black, sc around, sl st to join. Fasten off

With black yarn sc around the bottom, join with a sl and fasten off.
