Free pattern: Triangle scarf/shawl

Triangle scarves seem to only come out during the spring, and I couldn’t help but create my own. I wanted something that was fast and had an open mesh look, so that even on a cool night I could be warm but not overheated.

This requires your favorite worsted weight yarn and an L hook. Or whatever hook you have on hand, as this is a simple project to get started.

The project time is from 5+ hours.

Materials

L hook

Red Heart Charcoal or any ww yarn I used one skein.

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Stitches used:

Treble Crochet – trc

Chain - ch

Triangle Scarf

Row 1 With L hook, ch 6 then trc in 6th ch from hook. You will now have the bottom of the scarf, see photo 1 (go to the Ravelry page here) of what you should have at this point.

Row 2 Ch 6 (counts as trc and ch 2 here and throughout) and trc in the same area as the ch 6 or the top of the first trc from row 1, (see photo 2) ch 2, trc in the body of the trc from previous row (see photo 3) ch 2, trc in last stitch, ch 2, trc in same stitch. Turn (5 trc)

Row 3 Ch 6 and trc in the same stitch, ch 2, trc in the same stitch as the trc from previous row, ch 2, trc in same trc from previous row, ch 2, trc in the same stitch as the previous row, ch 2, trc in 4th chain (ch 6 from previous row) ch 2, trc in the same 4th ch. Turn. (7 trc) (see photos 4-8 to see where you should be)

Row 4 -28 Repeat row 3 by increasing at the beginning and end of the scarf.

To finish off, you can either leave the scarf fringe-less or do what I did and just add it on the points, or fringe away. Really up to you. As you can see, a pretty easy scarf to make, and it can also be a shawl. Very versatile piece.
