When it comes to crochet, the rules for hat making are pretty much the same. Either you work the hat from the top down or from the bottom up, and even sideways and to this point I have never seen it done other than this way.
I came across this interesting scarf pattern, and I really liked the simplicity of the repetitive stitches, and decided that it would look good in hat form. However after trial and error, decided to try something different and voila a hat was born.
The hat is worked flat, then whip stitched together to form a tube. Afterwards it is closed. Amazing enough, the actual line where I sewed is hardly visible.
Any yarn would do, just adjust the yarn and number of starting stitches in multiples of 3 if using a lighter weight or bulky yarn. With open spaces, this hat is still warm, but perfect for a spring or summer day or evening. The name comes from the fact the open spaces remind me of o’s hence the name.

Now line up the edges and whipstitch the hat carefully. Once complete, you will now have a tube. And following the directions here, close the top.
